FACTSHEET 176 1) War of the Worlds is a broadcast adapted from H.G Wells' 1898 novel. 2) It was first broadcast on the 30th October 1938 - the myth suggests that audience's reacted dramatically, which made this one of the earliest examples of mass hysteria. 3) The NY Times reported it as "Radio Listeners in Panis, Taking War Drama as Fact" - again highlighting the mass hysteria caused by the hoax broadcast. 4) Schwartz suggests that reportings of the broadcast's impact was not purely exaggerated; he implies that the effect it had was actually an example of a "viral-media phenomenon." Analysis 1) The titles 'The Surgery' and 'Life Hacks' suggest that these programmes are made to make life's of the audiences easier in one way or another, providing tips and basic life skills-"inform" and "educate". 2)  The Surgery: talks about experiences that young people face - FOMO, quirkey, slang langauge. the presenters way of using language and tone appeals to young people. S ocial media use. Life Hacks: use of language and tone, subject issues etc. 3) Each presenter is from a different part of the UK and a different ethnic minority, so appeals to a wider range of audiences, also a link with personal relationships. 4) The BBC Life Hacks page seems to be aimed for students that are currently in education.
