1) The 'This Is America' video meets the key conventions of a music video because it has a performance, the artist is featured in the video. The video also uses narrative, he uses real life references to drive the narrative. The use of intertextuality is used frequently in the video, the reference to Jim Crow, the Choir and Stephen Clarke. 2) The video is commenting on the position of black people in America and how they are viewed or treated by society. Gambino strikes a Jim Crow pose at the beginning of the video. Also, the dance and movement of him links to Stuart Hall's theory of black people being represented as the clowns/comedic. The use of guns in America has increased, people are more independent on them. People is America use guns on innocent black people. 1) The purpose of a music video is to sell products, the most obvious of which is the song featured in the video. However, other connected products are also marketed by a music video. Music videos are an unusual form of marketing as they allow full access to the product they are selling. 2) The digital age changed the production and distribution of music videos because it means that they are more widely distributed and are easily accessible. Videos updated on YouTube and other sites means that viewers can access them on portable devices whenever they want and wherever they are. 3) VEVO is an american multinational video hoisting service founded on December 8 2009. The concept for VEVO was described as being a streaming service for music videos with the goal being to attract more high-end advertisers.  The three major record labels that are behind VEVO are: Warner Music Group.
